Your account and your devices
You can start journaling straight away, with no account. Signing in is what keeps your journal within reach if you lose or change your phone. Everything here lives in Settings, behind the gear at the top of the screen.
Starting without an account
There is no sign-up step. GoodParts sets up a journal for you the first time you open it, and your entries are saved to it from the very first one. Until you sign in, though, the only key to that journal is on this phone. Settings says so: Your journal is not linked to a sign-in. Sign in to keep access if you lose this session or change devices.
If you never sign in and lose the phone, or this phone can no longer open its journal, those entries cannot be recovered.
Signing in
In Settings, tap Sign in near the bottom of the list. On iPhone you can sign in with Apple or Google; on Android, with Google.
If that sign-in is new to GoodParts, the journal on this phone simply becomes your account and nothing moves: Signing in links this journal to your account so your parts sync across devices. Your entries stay on the same account.
If you already have an account, say from another phone, the entries on this phone move into it, including recordings still waiting to be transcribed. A part that exists in both journals under the same name becomes one part, keeping the name your account already had. People you have mentioned are combined the same way when they match.
Sometimes the move needs a moment, and GoodParts tells you where things stand:
- You are signed in means the move has not finished yet:
Nothing has been lost. We will keep trying, and they will appear once it succeeds.
- Your entries are still here means GoodParts could not safely move them, so it did not sign you in. Nothing has changed; keep journaling and try again later.
- Finish your recording first means a recording is still going or still saving. Let it save, then try again.
- Check your earlier entries means GoodParts could not confirm the move. If entries are missing, contact support from Settings.
Using more than one phone
Sign in with the same account on each phone, the same way each time, and they share one journal. A phone loads your journal when GoodParts opens, so an entry you record on one appears on the other once it loads your journal again, for example the next time GoodParts starts from closed on that phone.
Some settings belong to the phone rather than your account: reminders, app lock, appearance, eyes-closed recording and read prompts aloud. Set them on each phone. Signing out does not change them.
Entry notifications go to the phones signed in to your account.
Signing out and switching accounts
When you are signed in, the row near the bottom of Settings reads Sign out. GoodParts checks with you first: Your journal will be cleared from this device until you sign in again.
After you sign out, GoodParts carries on with a new, empty journal on this phone. If you record in it and later sign in to an existing account, those entries move into that account.
To switch accounts, sign out, then sign in with the other one. Let your recordings finish first: a recording made under one account waits on the phone and is only sent while that account is signed in. Under a different account it shows as Recording saved on this device: This recording is unavailable to the current account. Switch accounts or discard it.
Reminders and notifications
In Settings, under Practice, Reminders & rhythms sets a gentle reminder. Turn on Enable reminders, then choose a Time and the days under On these days. If you allowed notifications while setting up GoodParts, one is already set for around 7:30am on weekdays.
The reminder says A moment with your parts
and Take a breath and check in with how you’re feeling.
It is scheduled on your phone, so it can arrive a few minutes late, for example while your phone is saving power or in a Focus.
If notifications are off for GoodParts, the Reminders screen says so and offers Open Settings. There is no separate switch in GoodParts for the notice that an entry is ready; your phone's notification settings control it.
App lock
In Settings, under Privacy & data, App lock asks for Face ID or Touch ID when you come back to GoodParts, with your passcode as a fallback (on Android, your fingerprint or face, or your device PIN). Turn on Require unlock, and GoodParts asks you to unlock once to confirm. GoodParts will lock when you leave the app and ask to unlock when you return. Takes effect next time you reopen the app.
App lock needs Face ID or Touch ID set up on your phone (on Android, fingerprint or face unlock). A passcode or PIN on its own is not enough. Without one, GoodParts cannot turn App lock on, and if it was already on, GoodParts opens without asking rather than locking you out. App lock is set on each phone separately.
Exporting your data
In Settings, under Privacy & data, Export your data saves a JSON file of your account through your phone's share sheet: entries and transcripts, parts, people, insights, prompts and summaries, part visits and suggestions, your privacy requests, consent choices and the security notices you acknowledged, your account and subscription status, and anything saved to the account in BecomingOne, Shanks Awareness Training or Simple Rituals. It works whether or not you are signed in, and needs a connection, because it is read from our servers. It says what it leaves out: Your account as our servers hold it, not only what this device has loaded. Left out: processing logs, pipeline jobs, rate limits, RevenueCat event and claim records, search indexes, device tokens, audio files, and fields only our operators see.
Pausing processing
When you are signed in, Privacy & data has GoodParts controls. They cover GoodParts only: our other apps keep their own, and withdrawing here does not change them. To withdraw for every app at once, email privacy@feelingmindful.com. Future collection stops new entries being collected and processed, and Optional sharing covers your ChatGPT connection. Withdrawing either one stops the ChatGPT connection, though ChatGPT can keep the access it already has for up to an hour. You can restore either one later. Withdrawal stops future activity; it does not delete existing entries or cancel a subscription.
To ask by email instead, the Your privacy rights card links to privacy@feelingmindful.com. Do not include journal content or passwords in the email.
Deleting your account or data
The last row in Settings deletes everything. Signed in, it reads Delete My Account and Data; not signed in, Delete My Data. Both ask you to confirm with Delete Everything, and both delete your entries, parts, the people you have mentioned and your insights. It cannot be undone.
Signed in, it can delete more than your journal. Your account is a Feeling Mindful account that our other apps can share, so the delete also removes anything saved to this account in BecomingOne, Shanks Awareness Training or Simple Rituals, if you signed in to them with it. Data one of those apps keeps in its own storage, such as the current cloud sync in BecomingOne and Simple Rituals, is not affected: delete it from inside that app or email privacy@feelingmindful.com. The dialog lists each app before you confirm.
Deleting needs a connection, so GoodParts can check your account first; without one you will see Cannot delete yet. It happens as soon as you confirm, and GoodParts then starts over with a new, empty journal. The privacy policy commits to removing your personal data from our active systems within 30 days, and from backups within six months.
Now and then a recording or transcript cannot be confirmed as removed straight away. GoodParts tells you when that happens: They are recorded for erasure and nothing you wrote remains.
Deleting your journal does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel that in your phone's app store first. A web subscription is cancelled when your account is deleted. Deleting also leaves what ChatGPT already holds from a connected conversation. Without the app, you can ask for deletion on the data deletion request page or at privacy@feelingmindful.com.
Connecting ChatGPT
The ChatGPT connection needs a signed-in GoodParts account with Pro access. First sign in on your phone, then connect in ChatGPT with that same account. A different sign-in is a different GoodParts account, and ChatGPT can only connect to one with Pro. To disconnect, remove GoodParts from your connected apps in ChatGPT settings. Your journal stays as it is. More on GoodParts in ChatGPT.
Updates and beta
Updates download quietly and apply the next time GoodParts starts from closed, never in the middle of what you are doing. The version number is at the foot of Settings.
GoodParts is in private beta, on iPhone first. Join the waitlist to hear when it opens up, or see download for what it needs.
If your journal shows Couldn't open your journal on this device. Tap to try again.
, tap it. If it keeps happening, GoodParts offers Start fresh on this device, which starts a new journal on this phone. If you'd signed in before, sign in again afterwards to get it back. If you never signed in, the earlier entries can't be recovered.
