IFS journaling apps compared

We make GoodParts, so read this page with that in mind. We have tried to write the page we would want to find if we were choosing: each app described from its own store listing and website, with the places where GoodParts comes out behind stated as plainly as the places where it doesn't.

Every app here is a journal or companion inspired by Internal Family Systems. GoodParts is a self-reflection journal, not therapy, and no app on this page replaces working with a therapist.

GoodParts is the best fit if you want to talk through your parts out loud instead of typing.

What to look for

Four questions separate these apps more than any feature list does.

  • Do you want to speak or to write? Some apps are built around typing, one is built around talking, and a few offer both.
  • Who names the parts? Some apps listen for parts in what you say and name them for you. In others you pick a part or a feeling first, or you build your map entirely by hand.
  • Where does your writing go? The range is wide, from apps that collect nothing to apps that send your entries to cloud AI services. Read the store privacy label as well as the marketing page, because the two don't always agree.
  • What does it cost after the free part ends? Some start with a few free entries or a limited free tier, others with a 7- or 14-day trial. Paid prices run from $4.99 to $29.99 a month.

GoodParts

A voice journal that journals back. You talk, freely, with nothing to pick first. GoodParts transcribes what you said and reads the transcript for the parts that are speaking. It recognizes a part when it comes back in a later entry, suggests merging two parts that look like the same one (you can accept, or undo), and lets you ask your journal a question and answers it only from your own entries. There are no streaks; here's why.

Typing is for unsent letters and for importing writing you already have. If you want a journal you mostly type into day to day, this isn't it.

Your first five entries are free, with no clock on them. After that it is $4.99 a month or $34.99 a year, the lowest price in this set. If you stop paying, your entries stay and export is never gated.

Your recording is transcribed in the cloud by AssemblyAI, through its EU endpoint; AssemblyAI is set to delete leftover data one day after each request. The analysis that names your parts runs on Amazon Bedrock in the US and works from the transcript text, never the audio. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and your journal is not used to train AI models.

You can lock the app, export your data (the export leaves out audio files), or delete your account and everything in it. Your data has the detail.

iPhone (iOS 18 or later) and Android. English only.

All My Parts: IFS Journal

The closest app to ours. All My Parts detects parts in real time as you write, and gives each one a card with its role (manager, firefighter or exile), its traits and its history. You can type or, on Pro, talk and have it transcribed. Pro also adds a weekly synthesis on Saturdays and “Ask All My Parts”, a search across your own entries.

The free tier offers limited daily journaling, basic entry analysis and parts detection. Pro is $12.99 a month or $99.99 a year in the App Store, with a 7-day trial; the website shows the monthly price with a “Save 36%” annual toggle.

Its site says entries are encrypted in transit and at rest, never sold and never used to train AI, and you can export any time. The App Store label lists purchase history, email, audio data, other user content and a user ID as linked to you.

iPhone and Android; no iPad. It is new too: version 1.0.5, with 3 App Store ratings at 2.7★.

Parts: An IFS Companion

A quieter, more structured app. You pick a feeling, go through a guided conversation of about five minutes, and finish with a letter written “from that part”. Its listing describes a map that takes shape as you go, but you choose the part; the app doesn't find it for you. Text only, with streaks and badges.

Its strongest point is privacy. The policy says entries stay on your phone and there are no servers; only the part label and the prompt text go to Anthropic's API. We noticed the App Store label declares Health, Name and User Content as collected (though not linked to you), which doesn't quite match the policy.

There's a 7-day free trial, then $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year. We couldn't confirm whether anything stays free after the trial. iPhone only; we found no Android listing. 14 ratings, 4.5★.

IFS Guide

The established option, with by far the most ratings. IFS Guide is built around an AI guide called Sunny, which you can text or talk to; the listing says the conversation works in any language, though the app itself is in English. After a session Sunny creates a parts map for you, and you can also keep part profiles by hand. It includes audio meditations, and runs on iPhone, Android and the web.

The download is free. Paid plans come in several overlapping tiers: Premium at $14.99 a month or $95.99 a year, and Platinum at $19.99 to $29.99 a month or $99.99 to $159.99 a year. We couldn't confirm what the free tier includes today.

Its two store listings disagree. The App Store label says identifiers are used to track you, and lists email and device ID as linked to you, and for personalization also name. The Google Play listing says no data is collected and that data isn't encrypted.

819 App Store ratings at 4.8★, and 562 Play reviews at 4.4★ with over 10,000 downloads. If track record matters most to you, nothing else here is close.

InnerOS: IFS Parts App

InnerOS isn't really a parts-detection journal in the IFS sense. Its “Inner Council” is ten fixed archetypes drawn from Jung (Warrior, Lover, Sage and others) that respond to what you write. It is text first, says it speaks and listens in eight languages, and adds mood tracking, a weekly summary, and a note when you seem to have been somewhere before.

It is the only app here, apart from Internal Family, that runs on iPad, and it also has Android. There's a 14-day free trial, then $19.99 a month or $79.99 a year; every feature needs the subscription.

The listing says your data is encrypted and never sold, with a Face ID lock and export or delete at any time. The App Store label lists email, name, user ID, device ID and crash data as linked to you. It has one App Store rating.

Internal Family: Parts Journal

The baseline: its listing doesn't mention AI. You create and map your parts by hand, with check-ins and a journal. If you want to do the noticing yourself, and want an app whose store label says it collects no data, this is the simplest answer here. Its App Store label reads “Data Not Collected”.

Free to download; a subscription unlocks unlimited parts mapping at $39.99 a year, or $6.99 a month. iPhone and iPad; we found no Android listing. 9 ratings, 4.1★.

Where GoodParts is weaker

  • It's new. GoodParts reached the App Store on October 11, 2026, the day we checked, and has no ratings yet. IFS Guide has 819.
  • Your voice goes to the cloud. Transcription runs on AssemblyAI's EU endpoint and analysis on Amazon Bedrock in the US. If you want your entries kept on your phone, Parts (which sends only a part label and prompt text to an AI service) or Internal Family (whose label says it collects no data) will suit you better. Our App Store privacy label is long, too: health data, your entries, identifiers, usage and diagnostics are all linked to your account.
  • English only. IFS Guide and InnerOS both converse in other languages.
  • Little typing. It is voice first. If you prefer to write, All My Parts or Parts fits better.
  • No iPad, and iOS 18 or later. InnerOS and Internal Family run on iPad.
  • A different shelf. It is listed under Lifestyle, while all five others sit in Health & Fitness, so you may not find it next to them in the store.

How we checked

On we checked each app against its own pages:

  • App Store: Apple's public lookup API and each app's US product page, for version, release date, in-app prices, the privacy label, device compatibility and ratings.
  • Google Play: each app's en_US Play page, for update date, data safety section, downloads and reviews.
  • Developers' own sites, where one exists, for pricing and privacy claims.

Where we couldn't confirm something from the developer's own pages, we say so above. Prices and features change; if something here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

We also looked at Imago: Shadow Work Journal (framed around shadow work rather than IFS), Sentur (a resource and tools app rather than a journal), and web-only chat companions such as IFS Buddy, IFS Space and Harmony, which aren't store-listed journals. We left them out of the comparison.

A note on names

GoodParts is made by Feeling Mindful Labs and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the IFS Institute or any other app on this page. We use “IFS” and “Internal Family Systems” only to describe the approach these apps draw on. Other app names belong to their developers.

GoodParts is a self-reflection journal. It is not therapy and not a crisis service. If you are in crisis, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.
